Watched: 41st Metro Manila Film Festival

After spending 2 days of movie marathon at cinemas watching mmff entries, here’s my personal findings:

RomCom (Typical MMFF):
1.All you need is PAG-IBIG 👍👍👍👍
        -Star studded
2. Beauty and the Bestie 👍👍👍
        -nag twerk si Coco Martin
        -Jadine for support roles
3. My Bebe Love 👍👍
        – Typical Vic Sotto comedy
        -AlDub for support roles
4. #WalangForever 👍👍👍👍👍
        – Light Comedy
        – “Mahal kita Mia pero hindi ako TANGA!“
        -Unexpected Plot Twist
        – SPOILER ALERT: Nicholas Spark’s type of ending.
        – Only MMFF entry na naiyak ako! 😦 #SuperHeavyDrama

Non Mainstream:
5. Honor Thy Father 👍👍👍👍👍
         -John Lloyd’s superb acting
-Pang Cinemalaya ang taas ng level

6. Nilalang 👍👍
         -Japanese back story
         -Too much action.
-R16. Cesar Montano, Maria Ozawa, Meg Imperial.
         -Expected next scenes
-Only MMFF entry na nakatulugan ko!
7. Haunted Mansion 👍👍👍
        -Slightly brutal
-hair rattling – Effective sound frequency
-Wait for the twist and ending
-2 notch scarier than Shake,Rattle and Roll.
8. Buy Now, Die Later 👍

Note: 👍`s were based on my personal preference of the movie – Cinematography, depth of the story, sound effects and other effects, etc.

If they’ll be ranked (for me) based on being “mmff entries” or the story being “Pampa-milya” or “pang-bata” or just a light themed movie, here’s my Top 3 entries worth to watch (first) :

Typical mmff entries were Romance-Comedies or Suspense-Comedies or Comedy Comedies, comedies are just in Filipino’s blood! Bringing a Non mainstream into this yearly film festival is trully a gamble but Honor Thy Father really stands out (for me).
John Lloyd successfully justified his character (lagi naman e). Just like recently sa movies nyang, A Second Chance. Ramdam ko – galit rin ako kapag galit sya sa movies, naiiyak ako kapag naiiyak rin sya sa movies, napapamura ako kapag nagmumura rin sya, nagagalit ako kapag mali yung point ng character nya and many more.
And where can you find a John Lloyd na pumapasok sa imburnal/sewers??? As in! Sa cinemalaya kalang makakakita ng ganun, why? Because entries in Cinemalaya are just Malaya! (free themed). And typical in Cinemalaya yung mga celebrities na pasikat palang, yung willing gawin anything para maka pasok sa showbiz or just wanted to try different path on acting. Don’t get me wrong on “willing gawin anything” , what I mean is willing pumasok sa imburnal? Sa Pozo Negro? Basta anything na out of the comfort zone ng mga artista. Pero JL? Need nya paba may i-prove sa acting nya? yet ginawa nyang bigatin ang Honor Thy Father. Story is also deep – church issues, faith, poverty, scam, family. Directed by Erik Matti.

#WalangForever stands out also for me. The comedy is not “pilit” and their “hugot lines” ay hindi gaanong karamihan, manunuood ka ng hindi lang mata at tenga kundi gamit rin ang feelings mo. Jericho and Jennylyn justified their roles. Heavy drama!

Hope to see the future MMFF’s to be correlated with each other, para mainspired ang mga Pinoy panuorin lahat 😀

All entries were watched at Robinson’s (Galleria) Cinemas which uses Dolby Surround 7.1
